Vodafone Deactivates Husband's Number Because Wife Didn't Pay Her Bills
Vodafone has pulled off a shady flim-flam to penalize a adult female for not paying her bills past suspending her husband'southward mobile number as well as her ain. Sounds pretty straight-frontwards, albeit a bit cruel, correct? Well, it is not only what Vodafone did that is surprising, it is actually how Vodafone accomplished its goal that volition blow your heed. As the story goes, the telecom operator zeroed downward on the victim'southward husband in her absence by using his Aadhaar number which was mentioned in a Facebook postal service.
The unfortunate Vodafone subscriber, Gayathri Ganesh, was in the Usa for a period of around ii months. When she returned back, her billing plan was suspended and her number was deactivated for failure to pay the bills. In the meanwhile, Vodafone also proceeded to suspend the mobile number of her husband past means which can simply be called shady, to say the least.
Here's how the whole saga unfolded in the words of the victim's husband:

When the victim's married man contacted Vodafone's authorities asking them the reason backside his number'southward deactivation, they told him that he had agreed to Vodafone suspending his number if his married woman's bills were non paid. (FYI: The agreement is valid only if a couple'south mobile numbers are connected). In this instance, the couple's mobile numbers were not connected and both of them paid their bills with split up corporate accounts.
Following is the concatenation of tweets Gayathri sent to recount Vodafone's sad act.
And so this entire episode with Vodafone. Tweeting the unabridged story.

He calls the client care. Twice. 2nd time, he gets an reply from the cc executive. Since I did not pay my bill, his number was deactivated.
We both have seperate corporate accounts. He got his number in 2009. We shifted domicile in 2014.
I got mine in 2015.— Gayathri Ganesh (@lelaancreation) February v, 2018
The customer care executive tells him, he has signed an agreement which gives them the right to suspend his account if his wife doesn't pay. And our accounts aren't even linked.

As if Vodafone India'southward callous act was not constructive enough, they responded with automated tweets to the victim's messages, but didn't requite a valid explanation for the action. The whole incident is not only an case of a brand's shrewd behavior, it also shines some calorie-free on the exploitation of Aadhaar to commit such an human activity in the commencement place (Cue: Airtel'southward Payments Depository financial institution's Aadhaar controversy), too equally the lack of proper telecom regulatory laws that can shield customers from such wrongdoings.
